Sagitta Inc. and Daito Electron sign distribution agreement for Japanese Market

Japanese Market orders first Centar Analytical equipment for failure analysis

September 8, 2004 - Sagitta Inc., a manufacturer of semiconductor analytical equipment for failure analysis, and DAITO ELECTRON, a high-performance commercial firm developing and implementing technological innovations, have signed a distribution agreement for Sagitta’s Centar product line in Japan. In order to support its sales efforts, DAITO ELECTRON has purchased a Centar demo system. In addition, TDK, a manufacturer of disk heads, has purchased a Centar following a brief on-site evaluation for TEM sample preparation.

Sagitta's Centar is a single platform sample preparation system for automated polishing, including cross section and parallel polishing of ICs and Disk heads for SEM, TEM, SCM, and PEM, at wafer, die and package levels. An integrated microscope coupled with a CCD camera and image magnification of up to 9000X in tandem with the proprietary SMPT™ (Sub Micron Polishing Technology) enable easy target positioning, definition and process monitoring. The PC based system enables the use of existing process recipes, develop new specific recipes, save images and data, and share all information with other departments or sites. Proprietary image processing, automated target acquisition, edge detection, coupled with Sagitta's online PolishEye™ module, and EAC™ (Exact Angle Control - +/-0.1deg) unit enable accuracy down to +/-0.1um, high throughput and unique bevel polishing

Dr. Yanagiuchi of TDK said: “Increased volumes with demands for quick analysis and fast turnaround require us to integrate an automated solution. The Centar allows us to process the most challenging applications successfully after a short training.”

Mr. Jiro Ariji, Manager of the International Sales Dept. at DAITO ELECTRON, points out: “We carefully select each manufacturer we choose to represent in Japan. The Centar system offers our customers the first automated polishing platform with full control over all polishing parameters that supports multiple sample preparation needs with no size, materials or shape limitations. The precise preparation of small samples is crucial for disk head manufacturers, and the capabilities of the Centar are the appropriate fit for the Japanese market.”

Ms. Efrat Raz, VP Analytical Equipment at Sagitta, adds: “Today’s latest IC manufacturing technologies, with shrinking dimensions, new substrate and process materials, such as copper and low-k dramatically increase the need for fully automated, accurate and superior quality polishing technologies to analyze defects and support the fab. We anticipate a quick and successful penetration into the Japanese market delivering systems to both the disk head and IC manufacturers.”
